WorkSafe inspectors to visit construction sites
WorkSafe inspectors will be visiting construction sites to ensure duty holders are aware of the new OHS Regulations.
On 18 May 2016 a WorkSafe Inspector attended a construction site in Ballan in response to a service request regarding unsafe work at heights.
The inspector observed five people working on the roof of a single storey residence, at a height of between 3.2 and 4.5 metres. There was no internal or perimeter fall protection at the site. The inspector issued a prohibition notice. The inspector issued the prohibition notice on the basis of an observed breach of regulation 3.3.4 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007, of failing to have fall protection to control the risk of employees falling more than two metres.
The offender pleaded guilty and was without conviction, placed on an undertaking to be of good behaviour with a special condition to pay $3,000.00 to the Court Fund. The offender was also ordered to pay costs of $2,000.00
