Summer may have come to an end but UV is still high and it's important to remember to protect yourself all year round. Let's face it, it's still pretty warm out there...
You can always rely on the below SunSmart approved top 5 sunscreen tips for your protection all year round.
Top 5 sunscreen tips
1. Pick a winner
Pick any brand of sunscreen but make sure it is SPF 30 (or higher), broad spectrum and water resistant.
2. Keep it fresh
Make sure your sunscreen is in-date (check the bottle for the expiry date) and is stored below 30 degrees. Your car's glove box won't do!
3. Apply (and reapply) like a pro
Ideally apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outdoors. This will give it a chance to get into all the crevices of your skin. Reapply every two hours and don't scrimp - you need at least a teaspoon of lotion per limb, for your head and the front and back of your torso.
4. Find your perfect match
There are lots of different sunscreens on the market including formulas for sensitive skin, dry touch, with insect repellent etc. Find one that meets your needs.
5. Last line of defence
Never rely on sunscreen alone to keep you safe. Protect yourself with a broadbrim hat, sunnies, tightly woven clothing which covers your legs, arms and shoulders, and find some shade. Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide!
